Historically, in times of economic crisis and the loss of confidence in the public powers, the birth of alternative community currencies that promote trade between communities, towns, cities and rural areas araise.

The idea of local currencies or mutual credit systems is not new; it is as old as civilization itself and comes to the fore in times when there is a shortage of state and bank money. If there are people willing to admit it, any political group or community can issue community credit without interest.

The COVID-19 pandemic is transforming the world faster than globalization itself. We are experiencing perhaps the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression in the 1930s, and its consequences are just beginning. We are beginning to glimpse how the present moment will affect the world of the future: Money will become even more scarce for people who depend on wages to live, with the poorest and most precarious people already affected. It is only a matter of time before the lack of money becomes widespread in society. At the same time, support for guaranteed income has increased and this increase is attributed to the inequalities that COVID-19 has revealed, since the loss of employment affects more low-income workers and vulnerable people (minorities, etc …)

In recent years there has been a rise in alternative currencies, one of the world’s leading examples the Swiss Wir, which means us in German, a currency created in 1934 after the Great Depression that began as a parallel economic system between businessmen and which currently uses 50,000 businesses that have their own cooperative bank, represents between 1 and 2% of Swiss GDP. .

Fundació Equilibri, we have proposed to create a Basic Income of Universal Exchange (RBIU) through its own social electronic currency, called λóγος (Logos), of current and legal use, to be able to offer a modest income, but sufficient to cover the needs basics of life.

What are we trying to achieve?

Reduction of inequality and eradication of poverty.

Improve the economic well-being of people and allow them to choose where they want to allocate their resources.

Promote entrepreneurship and exchange between people by creating a collaborative economy ecosystem.

The promotion of the local productive fabric.
